The Urban Playground Prodigal have been working with Parkour since 2003. They have been working in partnership with Gravity Style, the organisation of Parkour’s co-creators Malik Diouf and Charles Perriere since 2006. Together they have evolved a unique “performance-parkour” discipline which they perform and teach. The Urban Playground was the world’s first bespoke touring stage for the performance of Parkour, and the Team are the designers of the UK’s first permanent Parkour site (opened 2009 in Bewbush, Crawley) with another now open in Rugby and more on the way. The Urban Playground Team have performed at the National Theatre, in Southern Africa and the South Pacific for the British Council, had work commissioned by Newcastle Gateshead’s Juice Festival, the Brighton Festival, the Dublin Fringe and by Without Walls, the consortium of outdoor festivals with whom the team have twice toured the UK. Repeat seasons at Milan’s Teatro Della Contraddizione and Serbia’s INFANT Festival have lead to awards for the company including a new commission from the Teatro Stabili di Napoli and the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia. The Team is supported by the Arts Council of England. For more information on all aspects of The Urban Playground please visit www.theurbanplayground.co.uk
